Waterproofing BTB-Glass Mosaic Coated Façades
In spite of the assumption that glass mosaic coated surfaces are waterproof, it should be noted that the joints between the glass components are prone to moisture and water leakage (Figure 1). A proactive solution in the construction phase is to add Emulzer Latex to the mixing water in the preparation of joint filler. The amount of Emulzer Latex must be 10 to 20% of the amount of filling mortar. Filling mortar is mixed with this water to the required consistency, thus allowing a better waterproofing and adherence. If this application is omitted in the construction phase, then the solution is to use the transparent and water-repellent Saysilox. So the surface must be cleaned and if necessary, the joint filler must be cleared out and replaced. The whole surface, now clean and repaired, must be saturated with Saysilox from the top to the bottom. The best method is to apply Saysilox with a brush, roller and sprayer, and then to apply a second coat before the first coat dries up. After the application, any material smeared onto the surface must be wiped off with a damp cloth. Otherwise, the surface may become slightly dull. Saysilox will become water-repellent as soon as it dries up. It will take a few days to complete its cure. Although the pearl effect will decrease after a few months the surface will remain totally water-repellent. This application creates self-cleaning surfaces, so all the dirt or dust accumulating on the surface will always be washed away with the rain before they permeate deeper and blacken the surface.
